Eric Billingsley Leaves Apple As Speculations Over His Departure Emerge

An Apple executive that was in charge of the back-end technology for iCloud has left after serving the company diligently for a number of years. Eric Billingsley served Apple as the director of internet services operations and he will be remembered for taking the iCloud services to a whole new level.
The iCloud Drive document storage service offers stiff competition to services such as Microsoft’s OneDrive and Dropbox. The company is seeing to it that the small matters are well taken care of. It has asked Billingsley’s old team to with immediate effect start reporting to Patrice Gautier, the engineering vice president.
A veteran of eBay and Google who joined the company in 2013 is one of those that were first to be informed about the departure of Billingsley. The set up of data center infrastructure has been a tricky affair. Patrick Gates has been reporting to Gautier and he has been praised by the company for the dedication he has shown towards running infrastructure for top services.
Billingsley’s organization heavily relied on cloud services provided by Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services. That helped a great deal towards handling the computing needs of services like iCloud. There has been much speculation in line with the recent exit of Billingsley.
Some analysts have take a strong stand that it might be signaling Apple’s plan to depend more on its own data center infrastructure while sidelining the external cloud services.
The iPhones and the related devices rake in more revenues to the company. The passage of time is seeing internet services take over the world.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, opined “Over the last 12 months, our services business has become the size of a Fortune 100 company, a milestone we’ve reached even sooner than we had expected.”
Apple has had its challenges over the years, but one thing that has been outstanding about it has been the dedication to achieve success in the business world. He added that they were not going to relent in their quest to achieve business success.
